In the Armoire: Tips for Finding Your Wedding Dress

Congratulations soon to be brides! The big day is just around the corner and you have lots of planning to do. Don't feel overwhelmed. Just make a list and starting ticking things off. The best advice I can give you; this big day is about you and your fiance. It's as simple as that.

During the planning process keep asking yourself what your main goal is for your big day? Keep this in mind so you don't lose sight of your plan. With so many opinions flying in at you and trying to please soooooo many people, you can start to freak out a bit and get discouraged and lose sight of your overall vision.

Make a mood board of your ideas so you have a visual to look at. But remember you can change your mind during the planning process, this is ok. You might start planning your wedding and realise you prefer a different style than you thought. And to be honest most of your planning evolves around your dress right?

Well, ladies I can help you with this. I worked for a bridal consultant for 4 years and I've planned my own wedding so I have experience with planning a wedding and finding the perfect dress.

Some things you should keep in mind when looking for your wedding dress:

First and foremost, do not be afraid to try on all different styles of dresses!!! I can't say this LOUD enough. I don't know how many times I've worked with brides that insist on one style of dress and then get disappointed with how it's looking on them. More than not, you'll try on a dress for the heck of it and LOVE it. Sometimes we think we know what suits our bodies best, you probably do, but not always. So be open minded about the selection process.

I do encourage to have print-outs of what you are looking for, this gives the bridal consultant an idea of what style or direction you are going for. Let the consultant help you, but don't be afraid to say no, if it's not what you want. If they are a good bridal consultant then they will listen to your needs and wants but also make very valid suggestions.

Don't leave your shopping to the last minute, unless you are going to a big retailer that has every size, but this is unlikely. It takes time for a dress to come in and the dress won't come in fitting you perfectly, alterations will mostly likely take place.

Don't be afraid to try on dress that is not considered a bridal dress. My dress was a fancy bridesmaid dress and it was half the price of a wedding dress maybe more. There are lovely boutiques out there that carry beautiful occasion dresses that can be worn as a bridal gown.

Many bridal gowns can be changed. If you find a style you love but aren't completely satisfied with the material, ask if they can design it in a different material or ask if it comes in a different material. Bridal boutiques are use to making adjustments or asking the designer to change things, so do not be afraid to ask!!!!! It's your dress and you're paying for it, so be happy with it!

Do consider the weather and the venue when picking your dress. Don't go for a super heavy fabric if you are getting married in the middle of summer. Yes, this seems like common sense, but us girls can be silly when we find something we love, we'll try and make it work. Just remember you will sweat!!!!!

Don't freak out over the size of your dress. Wedding Dress sizing is different. You may be a size US 6, but your dress could end up being a size 10 or 12. It's ok!!!! It's just the way it is!

Lastly, every girl wants to find that perfect wedding dress. Don't put too much pressure on finding the PERFECT dress. Unfortunately, not every bride can afford that perfect dress but can find something similar. So be happy with this. Go for a dress that makes you feel beautiful, comfortable enough, and doesn't make you cringe when you look back at photos!

Happy Wedding Dress Shopping!
