In the Mirror: Washing your face

Last week I shared my ‘sleeping in your makeup’ segment and thought I would share with you my cleansing tips. Most of you have probably all heard, cleanse, tone and moisturize before, right? While this is all very good and healthy to do, there are a few more things to consider when it comes to taking care of your skin.

Please note: I'm not an esthetician and I don't claim to know everything that is good and bad for your skin, every face/skin type is different and different regimens work for different people. This is my regimen and things that I have learned that I would like to share with you.

My nightly routine:
1.   Rinse your skin well and loosen mascara/liners. I always use lukewarm water. Hot water can not only dry your skin but can break capillaries.
2.   Cleanse and massage in small circles all over the face (don't forget your neck). Try not to vigorously scrub skin, you can stretch it. This is my current favorite, Acure.
3.   Rinse well with lukewarm water and end with a few splashes of cold. This will close all your pores and tighten your skin. Pat skin dry. Don’t wipe
4.   Apply eye makeup remover to a cotton ball and remove any remaining eye makeup being careful not to stretch the delicate skin around your eyes. I like to do this after because the wash loosens it all up and makes removal easier. Find my favorite here. Read my review on it here.
5.   Apply toner to a cotton ball and sweep gently across face. The toner removes soap residue, tightens skin and preps it for moisturizer. Find my favorite here.
6.   Apply eye cream on your lid and under eye. Using your ‘gentle finger’ dab lightly all around your eye in an inward motion. Loving this right now.
7.   Apply moisturizer on your face and neck in an upward motion. I'm currently loving this.
8.   Drink a big glass of water!

I find that it’s not necessary to wash again in the morning, sometimes over washing can strip the good oils from your skin. Think about it, you washed the night before, all you did was sleep… I like to just splash with some water and re-apply eye cream and moisturizer. If you sweat a lot or… drool:)  this may not work for you but it does help save on expensive cleansers.

About 3 times a week I exfoliate for a deep pore cleanse and to remove dead skin cells. My all time fave scrub is here. This alba deep pore wash is excellent for acne prone skin. You can also use a washcloth for a daily exfoliation.
Once a week I do a mask to tighten and lift. I have used yes to tomatoes for a couple years and it works great! Also, check out this and this, diy masks from past blog posts...

No matter who you are, your skin is delicate and needs TLC. What do you like to do to keep you face tight and bright?
